BJP Pushes for Ban on Muslim Students at Vaishno Devi University; Says “Hindus Fund the Institution

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — In Indian-occupied Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have demanded a ban on the admission of Muslim students to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, claiming the institution is funded by Hindu devotees.

According to Indian media, the BJP’s local leadership submitted a memorandum to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, urging that only students who hold religious devotion to the Hindu deity Mata Vaishno Devi should be granted admission.

The controversial and unconstitutional demand emerged after 42 out of 50 available seats at the university were secured by Muslim candidates in the recent admissions cycle.

BJP leader Sunil Sharma alleged that since the university operates on donations from Hindu pilgrims, admissions should be restricted to those who “revere Mata.”

In response, the National Conference criticized the demand, noting that numerous religious organizations across India run educational institutions that admit students from all faiths. Such restrictions, they warned, would divide the country and violate its secular foundations.

It is noteworthy that the university’s official website mentions no religious requirements for admission. Over the years, thousands of students from diverse religious backgrounds have graduated from the institution.
