Key Decisions Taken in Meeting Chaired by Commissioner Shahzeb Kakar: 21 New Buses Added to Quetta Green Bus Service, Water Scheme Approvals Made Mandatory

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) — Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Khan Kakar chaired a meeting to review progress on newly approved Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) projects. The session was attended by Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, Divisional Director Development Zahoor Ahmed, and officials from various departments including Agriculture, Colleges, Culture, Irrigation, Environment, Labour, Local Government, Minority Affairs, Energy, Primary Education, PHE, Transport, QDA, and WASA.

During the meeting, departments briefed the Commissioner on 114 new development schemes included in the PSDP for Quetta district. They shared updates on tendering, fund releases, and challenges hindering progress.

Commissioner Shahzeb Kakar directed all departments to expedite implementation and ensure timely completion of development projects. He instructed officials to immediately resolve issues delaying stalled projects and make them functional.

A key decision taken during the meeting was that all departments working on drinking water and water supply schemes must obtain mandatory approval from the District Water Committee. Without this approval, no PSDP-funded water schemes will be allowed to proceed.

The meeting emphasized the prioritised completion of health, education, and clean drinking water projects. Instructions were also issued to accelerate work on road-sector and other development schemes. The Commissioner stressed eliminating duplicate schemes and ensuring timely completion of community-oriented projects.

The Transport Department briefed the meeting on public transport initiatives, announcing the addition of 21 new buses to the Green Bus Service. These include 17 green buses and 5 pink buses for Quetta, while 4 buses will be allocated for Turbat. Work on electric vehicles and the People’s Train Service for the city has also commenced.

Expressing displeasure over the absence of officials from certain departments, Commissioner Kakar ordered that letters be issued to their secretaries seeking explanations.

He reaffirmed that the timely completion of public welfare projects is the government’s top priority and warned that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
