OGRA’s Claim of Gas Price Reduction Exposed as Prices Rise for Consumers

Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) earlier claim of reducing gas prices has been contradicted by official documents, revealing that the regulator has actually approved an increase in prices for the current fiscal year.

According to the documents, OGRA has sanctioned a gas price hike of up to **7.14%** instead of an overall reduction.

For Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the price has been increased by **Rs118.47 per MMBTU**, raising the total price to **Rs1,777.02 per MMBTU**, reflecting a **7.14%** rise.

Similarly, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has received approval for a **4.89%** increase, amounting to **Rs86.30 per MMBTU**. The new price for SNGPL consumers will be **Rs1,852.80 per MMBTU**.

OGRA has also permitted an adjustment of **Rs60.88 billion** for gas companies to cover previous shortfalls.

Earlier, OGRA had issued a press release claiming an average **8% reduction** in gas prices, creating the impression of relief for consumers. However, the actual figures reveal that instead of easing the burden, consumers will face further price hikes.
