Iran-Pakistan Border: Soorab-Mand Trade Gate Reopens After Long Closure, Economic Activity Revives in Makran

Mand: The Soorab-Mand trade point on the Pakistan–Iran border has been reopened after a prolonged suspension, bringing relief and renewed optimism to local traders and residents of Mand and the wider Makran region. The closure had severely affected business activity in recent months, leading to rising unemployment and economic stagnation.
With the reopening, trade flow, employment opportunities, and local economic stability are expected to improve significantly. Local traders and residents hailed the decision as a “historic development,” saying it marks the beginning of a new chapter of economic revival in the region.
Residents credited the restoration of the trade point to the sustained efforts of Deputy Commissioner Kech Basheer Ahmed Baloch, Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries Haji Barkat Rind, IG FC General Bilal Sarfaraz, and other officials who prioritized public interest.
According to locals, the reopening will boost cross-border trade, ease the supply of food items, fuel, construction materials, and other essential commodities, while also revitalizing small businesses and the transport sector. The move is expected to create new employment opportunities for the youth.
People expressed hope that the government and district administration will continue resolving other border-related issues with the same commitment to ensure sustainable economic development and prosperity in the region.
