Flawed Security Strategy Paralyzes Quetta: Roads Closed in the Name of Security, Citizens Trapped

Quetta: The provincial capital, Quetta, has effectively turned into a security zone due to recent unilateral measures, with major city roads being closed or heavily restricted without prior notice or public consultation, citing security concerns.

Critics and citizens have strongly condemned the government of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, arguing that these policies are placing the burden of governmental failures on millions of residents, disrupting their daily lives. The sudden conversion of Inscamb Road into a one-way street has made timely access to Civil Hospital extremely difficult for patients, especially emergency cases. Lawyers, government employees, and the general public traveling to Quetta’s courts, including the Session Court, Commissioner Office, and DC Office, now face prolonged difficulties reaching these offices.

Additionally, restrictions on roads behind the Chief Minister House, Hali Road, and Model Town have further disrupted the city’s traffic system. In response, citizens have urged the High Court to take immediate notice of the violation of millions of residents’ basic rights and to order the reopening of roads for public access.
