Internet Shutdowns in Balochistan a Serious Violation of Basic Human Rights, Says Rehmat Saleh Baloch

Quetta: Rehmat Saleh Baloch, central leader of the National Party and Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the Balochistan Assembly, strongly criticized repeated internet and mobile data shutdowns in Quetta and other areas of the province, calling them a serious violation of basic human rights.
He stated that while the modern world is moving toward digital development, the people of Balochistan are facing conditions reminiscent of the Stone Age, with essential services like the internet being repeatedly disrupted.
Saleh Baloch highlighted that the suspension of mobile data severely affects students’ online education, assignments, and examinations, while young entrepreneurs and journalists also face significant challenges. He added that the lack of internet access not only hampers economic activity but also disrupts the flow of information, which is unacceptable in any democratic society.
Questioning the policies of both the provincial and federal governments, he said that relying on repeated shutdowns and restrictions in the name of law and order is clear evidence of failed policies. He further stated that blocking mobile data and building “high walls” has never ensured peace, noting that such experiments over the years have worsened rather than improved the situation.
Saleh Baloch demanded that the government abandon technology-hostile measures, stop burdening the public with policy failures, and adopt modern, professional, and transparent strategies to maintain peace and order.
