Resignation of Judges Could Be Dangerous for Government, Says Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan

Islamabad: Prominent lawyer and politician Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan has warned that the resignation of judges could pose a serious risk to the government. In an interview, he also stated that the President’s name should have been removed from the lifetime exemption list, adding that he would have advised the President accordingly if he had known.

Ahsan criticized the judiciary, saying it has been “undermined by its own institution” and stressed the need for judicial self-accountability. He further commented that if former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto were alive, she would not have supported the recent constitutional amendment, particularly regarding the President’s lifetime exemption.

He noted that the late Prime Minister had favored the Chief Justice’s office and believed that the two judges in question should not have resigned yet, emphasizing that they should have remained in office.
