PM Shehbaz Orders Crackdown on Artificial Fuel Shortages, Says Economy Remains Stable

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against anyone creating artificial shortages of petroleum products, while assuring that Pakistan has sufficient fuel reserves to meet the country’s needs.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review the impact of regional tensions on the national economy, the prime minister was briefed that ample stocks of petroleum products are available and that arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted supplies in the future.

Shehbaz Sharif said the situation in the region remains uncertain and instructed relevant institutions to remain fully prepared to tackle any potential challenges. He also praised the public for supporting the government’s previous energy conservation and austerity campaign, expressing confidence that the country’s economy is currently stable.

The prime minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive contingency plan to enable timely action if circumstances change. He commended the government’s fuel management strategy, saying it had ensured a steady supply of petroleum products and helped protect ordinary citizens, motorcyclists, rickshaw drivers, and transport operators from the full impact of rising fuel prices through targeted subsidies.

Shehbaz Sharif further directed federal and provincial authorities to work together to take strict action against individuals or groups involved in creating artificial shortages of petroleum products. He warned that escalating regional tensions could negatively affect the country’s economy in the future and urged the nation to adopt austerity measures as a collective responsibility.
