Turbat Model City Project Faces Delays and Poor Planning — Citizens Left Frustrated by Stalled Development

Turbat: The **Turbat Model City Development Project** has become a major source of frustration for residents as several ongoing schemes remain stalled due to **poor planning, contractor negligence, and suspension of government funding**. Many works have either stopped entirely or slowed down to a crawl, leaving partially completed structures scattered across the city.

One prominent example is the **stadium and commercial shops under construction** on the premises of the **Government Boys Model High School Turbat**, where work has been halted for years. According to reports, the delay began due to the **contractor’s negligence and slow progress**, but instead of taking corrective measures or replacing the contractor, the government has **suspended project funds**, worsening the situation.

Local residents have appealed to the **Commissioner Makran, Deputy Commissioner Kech, and Mayor of Turbat** to intervene and ensure the project’s completion.

Meanwhile, **shopkeepers affected by the Cinema Chowk development project** have voiced their concerns. They said the shops being built under the Model City Project near Cinema Chowk, east of Turbat, are nearly complete but have been delayed for months due to the **provincial government’s failure to release funds** and the **contractor’s apathy**.

The shopkeepers added that prolonged delays have led to **a rise in thefts and break-ins** at their old, deteriorating shops, causing **significant financial losses**. Recently, a **medical store was looted and set on fire**, further highlighting the urgency of the issue.

Shopkeepers stated they cannot afford to renovate their old buildings since they were expecting relocation to the new structures — but the continuous delay has left them vulnerable.

They urged **Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti**, **Finance Minister Shoaib Ahmed Nosherwani**, **Planning and Development Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi**, as well as the **Commissioner Makran**, **Project Director**, and **Deputy Commissioner Kech**, to take immediate notice, **hold responsible officials accountable**, and **release the pending funds** so the project can be completed and traders can shift to **safe and permanent shops**.
