Rana Tanveer Questions Lifetime Immunity Granted to President

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Food Security **Rana Tanveer Hussain** has questioned the decision to grant **lifetime immunity** to the President of Pakistan under the **27th Constitutional Amendment**.

Speaking to *SAMAA News* at the Parliament House, Rana Tanveer said that while it is appropriate for the **President, Prime Minister, and ministers** to enjoy limited immunity while holding public office, lifetime immunity for the President was unnecessary.

He remarked, “The President, Prime Minister, and ministers have certain immunities during their tenure, which is understandable so they don’t have to appear in court frequently. However, granting **permanent immunity** to the President was not the right decision.”

Rana Tanveer added that only the President himself could clarify why such immunity was sought. “I don’t understand why the President chose to take lifetime immunity — it would have been better if he hadn’t,” he said.
