Peace Cannot Be Achieved Through Closed-Door Decisions, Says KP Chief Minister Suhail Afridi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister **Suhail Afridi** has said that peace cannot be established through closed-door decisions, emphasizing the urgent need for a **comprehensive and permanent solution** to terrorism.

Addressing a **Peace Jirga**, Afridi said, “We talk about peace repeatedly, and while some may not like it, peace is only possible when terrorism is completely eradicated.” He stressed that political leaders must be included in policymaking so that decisions are widely accepted and effectively implemented. “A policy should not be made that fails after three years and leads us to say terrorism is rising again. We need a policy that eliminates terrorism once and for all,” he added.

### Call for a Sustainable Peace Policy

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for a **long-term and sustainable peace strategy** instead of short-term actions. He said the province achieved peace in 2018 through the sacrifices of security forces and other institutions, and the current government is committed to continuing that peace.

### FATA Merger and Financial Issues

Afridi lamented the **unfair financial treatment** of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that “Sindh receives 2.5% and Punjab 2.3% in revenue sharing, while KP — which sacrificed over 80,000 lives and suffered massive infrastructure loss — gets only 1%.”

He added that the **federal government owes Rs 2,200 billion** to the province in net hydel profit dues. “Although the administrative merger of FATA is complete, its economic merger remains unfulfilled,” he said. Afridi vowed to continue negotiations through logic and reasoning but warned that if dialogue failed, “we will stand united for the rights of our province.”

### Harmony and Neighborly Relations

The Chief Minister also emphasized **strong ties with neighboring Afghanistan**, noting that the people of KP and Afghanistan share the same faith, culture, and traditions. He said peace in Pakistan must go hand in hand with **stable relations with neighboring countries**, adding, “We want peace in Pakistan, but we must also maintain harmony with our neighbors.”
