Adviser Rana Sanaullah Confirms 28th Constitutional Amendment Coming After 27th

Islamabad:Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs **Rana Sanaullah** has revealed that the **28th Constitutional Amendment** is in the works, following the recent passage of the **27th Amendment**.
Speaking to the media, Rana Sanaullah said that the upcoming amendment will focus on **education, population, curriculum, and local government systems**.
He explained that for the passage of the 27th Amendment in the Senate, the government had **three senators in reserve**, adding that they had a strength of **67 or 68 members** this time. He noted that **Senator Irfan Siddiqui** could not cast his vote due to illness.
Commenting on the opposition’s stance, Rana Sanaullah stated that **no opposition member could raise an objection** to any specific clause of the amendment. He further clarified, *“Did the Constitution not already grant immunity to the presidential office? The immunity would only cease if the President holds a public office.”*
Meanwhile, **PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar** remarked that an **appeal could be filed against the 27th Amendment**, but the question remains — *“Which court should it be filed in: the Supreme Court or the Constitutional Court?”*
He added that if the matter is taken to the **Constitutional Court**, it would be **difficult to get a favorable decision**. Zafar further criticized the government, saying, *“Any amendment passed through manipulation or in violation of the Constitution cannot be sustainable. No constitution in the world allows immunity from prosecution for crimes like murder or theft merely because the perpetrator once held the office of President.”*
