Severe Power Cuts and Gas Shortages in Balochistan Paralyze Quetta’s Homes and Industries

Quetta: With the onset of winter, residents and businesses in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan are facing severe electricity load-shedding and a sharp drop in gas pressure, significantly impacting daily life and economic activities. Unannounced power outages of 16 to 18 hours have become common in various areas of the city, leaving households frustrated and bringing small and large industries’ production to an almost complete halt.

Meanwhile, the gas supply has dropped so low that even cooking on household stoves has become difficult, forcing people to rely on traditional fuels. Representatives of the Traders Association have strongly protested the situation, stating that the uncertainty in electricity and gas supply has halted their businesses and put thousands of workers’ livelihoods at risk.

The traders have urged both federal and provincial governments to immediately negotiate with Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to ensure consistent electricity and gas supply for Balochistan.
