26th and 27th Amendments Are the Murder of the Constitution, Says Barrister Hamid Khan — “We Stand with Anyone Who Opposes Them”

Islamabad: Senior lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding member **Barrister Hamid Khan** has strongly condemned the proposed **26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments**, calling them an “assault on the Constitution.” He declared that anyone opposing these amendments will have his full support.

Speaking to the media, Hamid Khan said, *“We did not accept the 26th Amendment, so there is no question of accepting the 27th. Everyone knows who is behind these moves — the rest are merely puppets. Power lies where force exists.”*

Commenting on the situation in **Azad Jammu and Kashmir**, he criticized the recent use of force against protesters and questioned the motives behind the political changes there. *“What happened in AJK was unjustifiable; only God knows the real purpose behind the change in government,”* he remarked.

Hamid Khan also lashed out at former PTI members who met **Shah Mahmood Qureshi**, calling them *“deserters and traitors of the party.”* He asserted that those who abandoned PTI have no right to speak on its behalf.

On constitutional matters, he demanded that the government **withdraw the 26th Amendment** and **run the country according to the Constitution**, emphasizing that doing so would automatically pave the way forward. *“We don’t want any deal; we only seek relief through the judicial system,”* he said.

Hamid Khan revealed that due to the judiciary’s current state of helplessness, his group has **challenged the 26th Amendment in court**, though he admitted to having limited expectations from the judiciary. He added that **principled dialogue** could be held with anyone over the 27th Amendment and mentioned that they had earlier consulted **Maulana Fazlur Rehman** on the matter.

Concluding his remarks, he reiterated: *“Whoever opposes the 27th Amendment — we will stand with them. These amendments are a blow to constitutional democracy in Pakistan.”*
