Survey Reveals Over 80% of Cigarettes in Pakistan Sold Without Tax Stamps; FBR Expands Probe on Luxury Lifestyles

Islamabad:A recent survey has revealed that **81.01% of cigarette brands sold in Pakistan lack tax stamps**, indicating widespread tax evasion. The survey found that only **12.03% of products carried proper tax stamps**, while **6.96% of brands were available both with and without tax**, suggesting the presence of a **parallel illegal distribution network** alongside legal cigarette companies.
Meanwhile, the **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)** has expanded its team to monitor **social media displays of luxury lifestyles**. The initiative aims to detect **significant discrepancies** where declared incomes are inconsistent with visible spending, potentially highlighting underreported taxes.
