Balochistan’s Revenue Suffers Due to Excise and Taxation Department’s Inefficiency — PAC Expresses Concern Over Poor Performance and Transparency Issues

**Quetta (Qudrat News)** — The **Public Accounts Committee (PAC)** of the Balochistan Assembly has expressed serious concern over the **poor performance, declining revenue collection, and administrative shortcomings** of the **Excise and Taxation Department**, warning that continued inefficiency could lead to greater financial losses for the province.

The meeting, chaired by **PAC Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen**, was informed that the department had **failed to meet its revenue targets**, with only **Rs 31.640 million collected under professional tax**, a figure far below expectations.

Committee members criticized the department’s **weak planning, lack of transparency, and ineffective tax collection mechanisms**, which have resulted in millions of rupees in losses to the provincial treasury.

Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen cautioned that if **corrupt elements and negligent officials** were not identified and held accountable, the province could face **even more severe financial setbacks** in the future.

The PAC directed the department to **ensure transparency in tax recovery**, establish **Excise and Taxation offices in all districts**, and launch **public awareness campaigns** to encourage compliance and improve provincial revenue generation.
