Balochistan Prisons in Dire Condition, Says PAC — Orders Salary Parity for Jail Staff and Immediate Facility Improvements

**QUETTA (Qudrat Daily)** – The **Public Accounts Committee (PAC)** of the **Balochistan Assembly** expressed serious concern over the poor conditions and administrative failures in the province’s prisons, describing them as **“rusted confinement cells” where humans live in inhumane conditions.**

During a detailed review of the **Prisons Department’s financial and administrative affairs**, the committee was informed that the department receives **insufficient funds** for maintenance and rehabilitation — to the extent that **even a broken tube well cannot be repaired** due to lack of budget.

**PAC Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen** remarked, “These are not prisons anymore; they have become punishment camps for human beings. There is a severe shortage of clean water, medicines, and basic hygiene facilities.”

The committee directed the **Prisons Department** to **immediately improve basic amenities for inmates** and ordered that **jail staff salaries be brought in line with other departments**.

Members also stressed the need to **establish a Prison Training Center** in the province and to **grant the jail staff official force status** to enhance discipline and performance.

The PAC instructed the government to **prepare recommendations for increased funding** and to ensure **adequate provision of essential facilities** in all prisons across Balochistan.
