Tariff Cut in Multi-Year Plan to Affect Consumers, Says K-Electric CEO

KARACHI: K-Electric CEO Moonis Abdullah Alvi has said that the recent reduction in the company’s multi-year tariff (MYT) by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will inevitably impact consumers.

In a statement, Alvi noted that the multi-year tariff announced earlier in June this year was the result of **two and a half years of consultations, research, reviews, and verification of data by independent sources.** However, the tariff has now been significantly altered within just a few months.

He said, “After two and a half years of deliberation, the multi-year tariff was issued — but it has now been completely changed in a matter of months. K-Electric is currently assessing how to sustain operations under the revised tariff.”

Alvi warned that the **tariff reduction could have consequences for electricity consumers**, though the company is striving to minimize the impact. “The management is making every effort to ensure customers are not affected, but to some extent, the reduced tariff will have an impact,” he stated.

K-Electric’s management has briefed the company’s board regarding the changes introduced under the revised NEPRA-approved tariff.
