All Legal Requirements Will Be Met in Faiz Hameed Case, Says DG ISPR

Army’s internal accountability doesn’t act on allegations alone, emphasizes Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif

PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that all requirements of justice will be fulfilled regarding allegations against former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, the military spokesperson clarified that the Pakistan Army’s system of internal accountability is “strong and well-structured,” but it does not act merely on allegations. “Punishment is given only after charges are proven,” he stated.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif added that the matter involving the former DG ISI is of “critical importance” and is being handled through a defined legal procedure. “Everyone should rest assured that the principles of justice will be fully observed,” he said.

He further noted that any delay in the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings is not a concern, as the Army prioritizes due process and fairness. “All individuals in the armed forces are entitled to full legal rights in their defense,” he stressed.

Responding to political commentary on the issue, the DG ISPR cautioned against dragging the military into political debates. “Politicians are respectable, but their politics is not above the state. Keep the army away from cheap propaganda and misleading narratives,” he warned.

Lt Gen Sharif also remarked that political parties have ample platforms to air their views, but “the Army’s spokesperson cannot hold press conferences every day to respond to political statements — nor would anyone want that.”
