Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program a Huge Success with Over 3,000 Successful Surgeries in Just Six Months

Lahore:Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s first and comprehensive Children’s Heart Surgery Program has been a major success, with over 3,000 children successfully undergoing heart surgeries in just six months. Under the program, 3,162 children have received successful heart surgeries and interventions. The program has not only benefited the people of Punjab but has also extended its services to other provinces.
In line with the Chief Minister’s vision, a team of foreign children’s heart surgeons will visit Pakistan every month to continue providing services. The British doctors’ team has already performed heart surgeries on children at the Faisalabad Cardiology Institute.
Since the inception of the program, 7,436 children from across the country, including from Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been registered for heart surgeries. Under the program, children from these provinces are receiving free heart surgeries.
Specifically, 316 children from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive free surgeries and treatment in both public and private hospitals in Punjab. Additionally, 51 children from Sindh have been registered for heart surgeries under the program, while 11 children from Balochistan will also benefit from free surgeries. Furthermore, 158 children from Azad Kashmir and 30 children from Gilgit-Baltistan have been registered for surgeries.
Under this initiative, 2,419 surgeries have been conducted in public hospitals, while 743 surgeries have been carried out in private hospitals. All surgeries and treatments under the program are funded by the Punjab government.
Before the launch of this initiative, hundreds of children used to lose their lives every year due to heart diseases, with long waiting lists and insufficient resources leaving parents helpless.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed that she cannot bear to see the suffering of young children, stressing that the government will cover the costs of heart surgeries. She emphasized that the resources of the government should primarily benefit children, adding that every child should receive the necessary medical treatment as quickly as possible.
Through this program, the Punjab government aims to ensure that children suffering from congenital heart defects receive the treatment they need, free of cost, as soon as possible.
