Pakistan Decides to Open Badini Border with Afghanistan

Islamabad: Pakistan has decided to **open the Badini border crossing** with Afghanistan, pending final clearance from the **Ministry of Foreign Affairs**. The **Ministry of Interior** has already granted approval for the move, officials confirmed during a meeting of the **National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce**.
During the session, **Special Secretary for Interior** stated that the government is *“fully ready to operationalize the Badini border”*, but emphasized that the **Balochistan government must first improve the road infrastructure**, which is currently inadequate.
According to the **Secretary of Commerce**, a formal letter has been sent to the **Foreign Ministry** regarding the border’s opening. “The Ministry of Interior has cleared the matter, while we await a response from the Foreign Office. Customs will need around three months for full preparation, and the FIA’s readiness report has already been submitted,” he added.
The Special Secretary further noted that the **border is located about 130 kilometers from the nearest main road**, making immediate full-scale operations challenging.
Committee Chairperson **Anusha Rahman** questioned whether work on the Afghan side of the border had been completed, to which the Special Secretary replied that **Pakistan is ready**, but **the Balochistan government must improve the connecting road network**.
He confirmed that once the infrastructure is ready, **the FIA will be deployed** at the Badini crossing to facilitate trade and movement between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
