Rohit Sharma Removed as ODI Captain Amid Reported Rift with Gautam Gambhir

Karachi: Indian cricket star **Rohit Sharma** has reportedly been removed as India’s ODI captain due to a **clash of egos with head coach Gautam Gambhir**, according to Indian media reports.

As per *The Times of India*, the decision to strip Rohit of his ODI captaincy was influenced by **Gambhir’s desire to maintain strict control over the team**, something that was said to be difficult under Rohit’s leadership. Sources claim Gambhir played a key role in the move to replace him.

Selectors and team management were reportedly concerned that if Rohit continued as captain, he might **run the team according to his own vision**, potentially affecting the team’s overall culture and cohesion.

Chief Selector **Ajit Agarkar** commented on the change, saying that having **different captains for different formats** aims to reduce friction among senior players and help shape the team’s long-term future. He added that **Shubman Gill** needs time and experience to prepare for the **2027 World Cup**.

The **Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)** recently appointed **Shubman Gill** as India’s ODI captain for the upcoming series against Australia, officially marking the end of Rohit Sharma’s tenure as the team’s 50-over leader.
