Sindh High Court Issues Notice to Attorney General on Former President Arif Alvi’s Housing Request

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a notice to the Attorney General of Pakistan on a petition filed by former President Dr. Arif Alvi, seeking permanent official residence.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel argued that Dr. Alvi, who served as President of Pakistan from 2018 to 2024, is entitled to lifelong official accommodation. Initially, Bungalow No. 3-A in Bath Island was allotted to him, later replaced with Bungalow No. 5-A. However, the latter property is currently occupied by Customs Member Shahab Imam, who has held a stay order on it since 2023.
The lawyer contended that the federal government’s conduct towards the former President was inappropriate, as Dr. Alvi had not been informed of the bungalow’s existing legal status. The plea requested the court to direct the government to hand over the allotted bungalow to the former President for residential purposes.
The SHC, after hearing the arguments, issued notice to the Attorney General and ordered the submission of a para-wise reply at the next hearing.
