Balochistan Govt, Opposition Reach Consensus on Mines and Minerals Act

Quetta:Chief Minister Balochistan **Mir Sarfaraz Bugti** announced that negotiations between the government and the opposition on the **Mines and Minerals Act** have successfully concluded, marking what he described as a reflection of **democratic traditions and prioritizing public interest** in the province.

Speaking at a press conference alongside opposition members and provincial ministers after the Assembly session, Bugti said the Act had faced objections after its passage, but the government had assured that **all parties would be taken into confidence** before moving forward.

He confirmed that implementation of the Act has been **suspended through an executive order** and will now be reintroduced in the provincial assembly in the form of a resolution.

The Chief Minister added that a **joint committee** comprising both government and opposition members would be formed to propose amendments and ensure consensus-based decisions. He further explained that since the Act had already attained legal status under the **18th Amendment**, only amendments could now be made.

Bugti emphasized that Balochistan’s **mineral resources are a valuable asset** and must be utilized to strengthen the province’s economy, ensuring that the benefits directly reach the people. He reiterated the government’s commitment to **transparent, democratic, and people-friendly legislation** by working with all political stakeholders.
