PM Shehbaz Sharif Lauds Overseas Pakistanis, Vows to Make Country an Economic Power

London:Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif** has stressed the importance of unity and resilience, declaring that **Pakistan’s victory on May 10** taught the enemy a lesson it will “never forget.” Addressing a gathering of overseas Pakistanis in London, the premier said Pakistan had already proven itself as a **military power** by downing six enemy aircraft and now must also eliminate poverty with the same determination.

Congratulating expatriates on the victory, he praised overseas Pakistanis as the “true ambassadors of Pakistan,” who contribute not only economically but also politically by defending the country on global forums. He highlighted that overseas Pakistanis sent **\$38.5 billion in remittances** last year, which he said was crucial for sustaining the national economy.

PM Shehbaz recalled that during the recent conflict, Pakistan’s armed forces, led by **Field Marshal Gen. Syed Asim Munir** and Air Chief Zaheer Ahmad Babar, showcased unmatched bravery and professionalism, earning the nation historic glory. He added that the unity between military and political leadership was key to that success.

Sharif underlined that while Pakistan has limited natural resources, its true asset lies in its **youth**, which makes up 60% of the population. He urged investment in **information technology, artificial intelligence, and vocational training**, calling youth empowerment the pathway to economic strength.

The Prime Minister vowed that just as Pakistan defended its sovereignty by downing six jets, it would also **defeat poverty, reduce dependence on loans, and achieve economic independence**. “This is difficult but not impossible if we resolve to work hard day and night,” he said.

Sharif emphasized that resolving the **Kashmir dispute** remains central to sustainable peace in South Asia, reiterating that no lasting ties with India are possible without its settlement. He also expressed solidarity with **Palestinians in Gaza**, condemning the large-scale killings and calling for Islamic nations to play a stronger role in peace efforts.

The event was also addressed by **Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain,** and **OPF Chairman Qamar Raza**. A large number of overseas Pakistanis from different walks of life attended the ceremony.
