Gwadar Water Crisis: 3 Million Gallons to Be Added to Supply System Soon

GWADAR: An important meeting chaired by Noorul Haq Baloch, Focal Person for Water and Power Crisis and Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority, reviewed the ongoing measures to address Gwadar’s water shortage. The session followed up on the decisions made in a recent meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

The meeting was attended by Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Moeen-ur-Rehman Khan, Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Hamood-ur-Rehman, GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Public Health Executive Engineer Momin Ali, Water Project Director Mirjan Baloch, and other engineers and officials.

Officials informed the meeting that in the coming days, around **2 million gallons of water from Shadi Kaur, 0.5 million gallons from Suntser boring, and 0.6 million gallons from the GPA desalination plant** are expected to be added to the system. This additional supply is anticipated to ease the city’s water crisis. However, concerns were raised that water supply could be disrupted due to the drying up of the Sawad Dam.

To mitigate the situation, it was decided that GDA will expedite new pipeline connections and complete household water connections at the earliest. It was also agreed that GDA and Public Health staff will jointly manage water distribution, while strict action will be taken against water theft and illegal connections.

Furthermore, the meeting approved the formation of another committee under district administration supervision and discussed reducing water supply through en-route connections from Sawad Dam to the Gwadar Airport water station.
