Balochistan Runs Out of Wheat Stock, No Procurement Made for 2024–25

QUETTA: The Food Department of Balochistan has run out of wheat reserves as no procurement has been carried out for the year 2024–25, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to department sources, the province currently has **zero wheat stock**, and only reserves from 2023 have been released with the approval of the provincial cabinet.

Officials further stated that the Food Department has **no wheat available for September 2025 to March 2026**, raising concerns of a looming supply crisis. A summary regarding the shortage has already been forwarded to the provincial government.

The proposal recommends purchasing **500,000 bags of wheat** either from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) or the Punjab government. Once approved by the Balochistan cabinet, the procurement process will move forward.
