Punjab Undertook Largest Rescue Operation in Country’s History: Uzma Bukhari

Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that the provincial government carried out the largest rescue operation in Pakistan’s history during the recent floods.

In a statement issued from Lahore, Bukhari said Punjab faced the worst flood in the country’s history, but timely action by the provincial government saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

She criticized those pointing fingers at Punjab, stating that in their own provinces, hundreds had lost their lives due to floods and heavy rains. She added that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, victims still remained without support while the provincial government had failed to address their problems or maintain its writ.

The minister said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her team had been working tirelessly for flood victims. She stressed that Punjab was utilizing all available resources to help those affected, though their rehabilitation remained a major challenge.

Bukhari added that loss assessments were underway, and once surveys were completed, Maryam Nawaz would soon announce a comprehensive relief package for the victims.
