Karachi: Sharp Rise in Gastro Cases Amid Severe Heatwave

Karachi: A significant increase in cases of gastroenteritis has been reported in Karachi due to the ongoing severe heatwave.
According to officials at Jinnah Hospital, more than 150 patients suffering from gastrointestinal diseases are visiting the hospital daily, compared to around 50 cases on normal days.
Hospital administration stated that most patients are arriving with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and dehydration, which are likely linked to the consumption of contaminated water and unhygienic food.
Medical experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, including using clean and boiled water and avoiding stale or open food items.
They further stressed the importance of washing hands before meals and maintaining proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infections.
In view of the intense heat, health specialists also recommended increased intake of water, oral rehydration solutions (ORS), and other fluids to prevent dehydration.
