Over 2.1 Million Homes Rebuilt in Sindh with World Bank Support, Says CM Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI:Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has revealed that over 2.1 million houses destroyed during the devastating 2022 floods in Sindh have been rebuilt, thanks to an initial \$500 million assistance package from the World Bank.
Speaking during a visit to Nazar Muhammad Laghari Goth alongside First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari and a delegation from the World Bank, Shah emphasized the critical role international support played in post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
According to sources, the World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the Sindh government in assisting flood victims. The visit also included a ceremony where property ownership documents were distributed among affected women.
Asifa Bhutto Zardari hailed the program as Pakistan’s largest initiative for granting property rights to women. “This project is empowering rural women and is a testament to the Sindh government’s commitment to gender equality,” she said.
CM Murad Ali Shah reiterated that the rebuilding of homes was made possible through timely financial assistance. “The 2022 floods destroyed more than 2.1 million homes in Sindh. The \$500 million aid from the World Bank enabled us to begin reconstruction promptly,” he stated.
The development marks a significant milestone in post-flood recovery efforts and highlights the growing focus on women’s empowerment through inclusive housing programs.
