Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Awaits China Visit Amid Rising Regional Diplomacy

ISLAMABAD: Preparations are underway for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China following increased diplomatic activity in the region after US President Donald Trump’s recent trip to China.

Speaking during a meeting with a high-level Chinese business delegation in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and China share historic and longstanding relations based on mutual trust and cooperation. He added that he was looking forward to visiting China later this month.

The 11-member Chinese delegation was led by Qian Xiaojun, founder and president of IBI Beijing United Technology. During the meeting, both sides discussed investment opportunities in Pakistan, promotion of the digital economy, and expansion of industrial cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the economic progress of China under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and emphasized that ties between the two countries have strengthened over decades.

The prime minister also welcomed IBI Group’s decision to establish a digital economy headquarters in Pakistan, calling it a significant development that would create new opportunities in technology, industrial collaboration, and foreign investment.

Qian Xiaojun said the company is keen to support Pakistan’s digital transformation and believes the establishment of its regional headquarters in Pakistan will further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
