Relentless Rain Worsens Flood Misery Across Punjab

Lahore:As floodwaters had yet to recede, fresh **torrential rains lashed Punjab**, further submerging already devastated regions and compounding the suffering of displaced families.
In Lahore, heavy rainfall hit **Ravi Bridge, Mall Road, Gulberg, Davis Road, and Garhi Shahu**, worsening waterlogging after the **Ravi River’s flooding**. Entire housing societies in **Chuhang** remain underwater.
Several districts including **Chiniot, Wazirabad, Gujrat, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal** reported alarming conditions as rainwater inundated low-lying areas. In Jhelum, **streams and nullahs overflowed**, flooding nearby settlements. Rescue teams used boats to save **children stranded on a madrassa rooftop**.
The **flood crisis in Punjab’s rivers persists**:

In **Multan’s Shujabad Tehsil**, crops and **140 villages** have been affected. Commissioner **Aamir Karim** warned of a potential **800,000 cusec flood surge** passing through Multan on Monday, with contingency measures including possible **controlled breaches at Head Muhammad Wala**.
At **Balloki Headworks on the Ravi**, spillways have been fully opened, flooding nearby villages, livestock areas, and farmlands. In **Narowal and Nankana Sahib**, embankments broke, sending floodwaters towards urban and rural settlements.
At **Ganda Singh Wala on the Sutlej**, villages remain submerged. In **Bahawalnagar**, some residents refused to evacuate their homes despite warnings.
Meanwhile, the **Education Department** ordered the closure of schools in **Pakpattan and Arifwala** from September 1 until further notice, citing safety concerns. Rescue operations continue as **floodwaters reached Noora Bund in Arifwala**, with boats deployed to move families to safer ground.
So far, **30 people have lost their lives** in the Punjab floods, while **over 1.5 million residents are affected**. Internet services remain suspended in several regions, adding to communication woes.
Displaced families, including women and children, remain under the **open sky without food or shelter**, urging **Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz** for urgent relief.
