PTA Denies Rumors of Blocking Phones for Using More Than Five SIMs in a Month

Islamabad: A post circulating on social media claims that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a notification warning that mobile phones will be blocked if users use more than five SIM cards in a single month. This claim has gone viral but has been strongly denied by PTA.

The supposed notification, which featured the PTA logo, also allegedly warned that users who exceed the limit of five SIM cards in a month would face suspension of network services. However, PTA has categorically dismissed these claims as false.

In an official statement, PTA’s Director of Communications, Zeeb-un-Nisa, clarified that no such advisory had been issued. She explained that the circulating message is misleading and unfounded. According to PTA, the authority only monitors IMEI duplication and cloning, taking actions such as blocking suspicious devices, conducting raids with the FIA, and running public awareness campaigns.

A private telecom company, Jazz, also confirmed that no technical system exists in Pakistan to limit the number of SIM cards used in a phone within a given month.

Furthermore, PTA’s official social media accounts have also refuted the viral news, labeling it as fake. The claim that phones will be blocked for using more than five SIM cards in a month is entirely baseless and untrue.
