Three Children Abducted in Karachi Within 8 Days, None Recovered Yet

KARACHI – In a disturbing trend, three children have been abducted from different areas of Karachi within just eight days, but police and the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) have so far failed to recover any of them.

On August 27, 12-year-old Hassan, son of Muhammad Saleheen, was reportedly abducted near Eidgah Ground in Korangi Industrial Area. According to the FIR filed by the victim’s brother, Muhammad Umair, Hassan left home with a neighbor named Abdul Rehman, telling him that he had spoken with a Mufti and was planning to go to a madrassa in interior Sindh. He has been missing since. The case has been registered and investigations are underway.

Earlier, on August 25, 4-year-old Maira was abducted from outside her home in Hijrat Colony, Civil Lines area. An FIR under Section 364-A has been registered by her father, Israr, against unknown suspects. CCTV footage shows a man on a motorcycle abducting the girl, while her elder sister ran after them in vain. The family reportedly received a ransom call demanding Rs. 1.5 million, but there has been no further contact. The AVCC has taken over the investigation.

In another case, on August 19, 9-year-old Abdul Wahab, son of Waqas, was kidnapped from outside his residence in Sector 13-A of North Karachi (Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area). An FIR under Section 364-A was lodged by the victim’s mother, Sana. The case has also been handed over to the AVCC for investigation.

Despite registering cases and initiating investigations, AVCC has not been able to recover any of the missing children, raising serious concerns over the safety of minors in the city.
