PM Shehbaz Orders Urgent Measures to Tackle Urban Flooding Amid Punjab’s Worsening Flood Situation

Islamabad: In response to the worsening flood situation in Punjab, Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif** has directed authorities to take **emergency measures** to counter the risk of **urban flooding** in major cities.
Chairing an emergency meeting focused on the ongoing heavy rains and potential flooding in the **Chenab**, **Sutlej**, and **Ravi** rivers, the Prime Minister reviewed the latest updates and preparedness efforts. The meeting was attended by key federal ministers including **Ahsan Iqbal**, **Owais Leghari**, **Dr. Musadik Malik**, **Attaullah Tarar**, and **Ahsan Cheema**, as well as the **Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)**.
The NDMA Chairman briefed the Prime Minister on the current flood risks arising from the recent monsoon rains and outlined the precautionary steps taken so far. According to the briefing, NDMA has already supplied **5,000 tents** to flood-affected areas in Punjab, and the delivery of other essential relief items is ongoing.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for **enhanced early warning systems** and more **efficient information dissemination** to keep the public informed. He specifically instructed authorities to take **immediate administrative action** in urban centers like **Gujrat**, **Sialkot**, and **Lahore** to mitigate the threat of urban flooding.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and urged all departments to work in full coordination for timely and effective flood response.
