Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chairs Key Meeting to Resolve Water and Power Crisis in Gwadar

Gwadar:A high-level meeting was held today in Gwadar under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal to address the pressing water and electricity issues in the region.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Secretary Power Division, and the Chief Executive of QESCO. Other key stakeholders including Director General of Gwadar Development Authority Moin-ur-Rehman Khan, Chairman Gwadar Port Authority Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, and Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Hamood-ur-Rehman joined via video link.

The meeting involved a detailed discussion on the ongoing electricity shortage and water supply challenges faced by the residents of Gwadar. The Federal Minister directed authorities to evaluate the establishment of a 170-megawatt solar power plant in Gwadar to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply for both residential and industrial needs.

It was also decided that 2 megawatts of electricity would be provided immediately to support water supply operations, which have been hindered due to power shortages.

Officials briefed the meeting that recent rainfall has raised water levels at Shadi Kaur Dam, and water supply from the dam to Gwadar is currently underway and expected to be completed in the coming days. However, uninterrupted electricity is essential for effective water distribution, requiring urgent arrangements.

The meeting highlighted the federal government’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions for Gwadar’s basic infrastructure challenges and ensuring long-term development in the region.
