Eighth Spell of Monsoon Rains Expected from August 23, PDMA Issues Flood Alert

Islamabad: The eighth spell of monsoon rains is expected to begin from August 23, according to the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), which has issued a flood alert due to the anticipated rise in water levels in rivers.

As per the report by private TV channel Dunya News, the PDMA has warned of increased water flow in rivers from August 23 to 27. Western winds are likely to enter the upper regions of Punjab on the night of August 22.

Rain is forecasted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujrat. Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, and Sargodha are also expected to receive rainfall. Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad are likely to be affected as well.

In southern and central Punjab, rainfall is expected in Rahim Yar Khan, Jhang, Nankana Sahib, and Toba Tek Singh. Other areas likely to experience rain include Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rajanpur.

The PDMA spokesperson warned of a potential rise in water flow in the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, along with smaller rivers and streams. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners across Punjab have been alerted to take necessary precautions.
