Popular TikTok Star in Egypt Revealed to Be a Young Man in Disguise

Cairo: Social media users in Egypt were left shocked after a popular female TikTok influencer known as “Yasmin” was revealed to be an 18-year-old male student posing as a woman.
According to Arab media, the truth came to light after police received a flood of complaints about Yasmin’s dance videos on TikTok. Authorities summoned the influencer for questioning, during which it was discovered that “Yasmin” was actually a young man named Abdul Rahman.
Abdul Rahman, a tourism and hotel management student, admitted that he created the fake female persona to gain followers and earn money through the platform.
Initially, a court placed him on a four-day remand, but he was later released on bail after paying 5,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately \$105 USD).
Abdul Rahman lives in a village with his divorced mother. Locals described him as a quiet and ordinary boy. One neighbor expressed disbelief, saying, “We are in shock. We never imagined he was fooling the world by pretending to be a girl.”
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior confirmed that Abdul Rahman has been charged with impersonating a woman and publishing immoral content online.
This incident comes amid an ongoing crackdown by Egyptian authorities on what they describe as “immoral content” on social media. In recent years, several well-known female TikTok influencers have been arrested and even jailed for posting provocative or inappropriate videos.
