Partial Strike by Lawyers in Lower Courts on Punjab Bar Council’s Call

Lahore: A partial strike by lawyers is underway in subordinate courts across Punjab following a strike call by the Punjab Bar Council. The strike was announced in protest against FIRs registered against several lawyers in various cities of the province.
Due to the strike, court proceedings in many cases were postponed without any hearings. Duty Additional Sessions Judges and Civil Judges have begun adjourning cases without conducting proceedings as lawyers continue to boycott court appearances.
The Punjab Bar Council has demanded the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs filed against lawyers. In compliance with the Bar Council’s appeal, a complete strike is also being observed in the Lahore High Court and subordinate courts.
President of the Bar, Manzar Bashir, stated that if the cases are not withdrawn, lawyers will escalate their protest. Bar Secretary Asad Malik added that they will protect the dignity of the black coat and are not afraid of any legal action.
