Shalimar Express to Resume Operations Between Lahore and Karachi from August 14

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has decided to resume the Shalimar Express service between Lahore and Karachi from August 14 after the train remained suspended for two weeks due to flooding.

The premium passenger train, operated under a public-private partnership, previously ran from Lahore to Karachi via Faisalabad. However, following flood damage to the Qila Sattar Shah-Masan Kallar railway bridge, the route has been changed.

Under the revised route, the Shalimar Express will now travel from Lahore to Karachi via Sahiwal. Railway authorities have also assigned five stops to the train: Kot Lakhpat, Raiwind, Okara, Sahiwal and Sadiqabad railway stations.

The Shalimar Express management has announced a 14 percent discount on fares for all classes following the resumption of the service.

The train was suspended after floodwater affected railway infrastructure, disrupting operations on the previous route through Faisalabad.

The revised service is expected to provide passengers with an alternative rail connection between Lahore and Karachi while the affected infrastructure is being restored.
