Three Witnesses Refuse to Identify Afaq Ahmed in Container Arson Case

Karachi:In a significant development in the container arson case, three key witnesses, including the complainant, have refused to identify Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H) Chairman Afaq Ahmed during their testimonies in an anti-terrorism court in Karachi.
The hearing was held at the Anti-Terrorism Complex within Karachi Central Jail, where Afaq Ahmed and other accused appeared before the court. The case pertains to the alleged arson of a container in the Landhi area.
Complainant Danish and two other witnesses informed the court that they did not register any FIR or provide any statement against Afaq Ahmed. All three retracted their earlier statements reportedly given to the police, claiming they had no knowledge of any involvement by Afaq Ahmed in the incident.
We did not file any case against Afaq Ahmed, nor did we issue any statement against him,” the witnesses said in court. They further alleged that police had taken their signatures on blank papers.
Testimonies from Danish, two police officers, and two other witnesses were recorded during the hearing.
The court has adjourned the hearing until August 25 and summoned more witnesses for the next session.
According to the prosecution, Afaq Ahmed is accused of inciting party workers via an audio message to set the container on fire. It is also alleged that sugar sacks were stolen from the container during the incident. Police claim that the suspects admitted they acted on Afaq Ahmed’s instructions.
The case remains under investigation at Landhi Police Station.
