Cloudburst Triggers Devastating Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan; 20 Foreign Climbers, 40+ Local Porters Stranded

Gilgit: A destructive cloudburst in the upper village of Keti Sho, located in the Kharmang district of Gilgit-Baltistan, triggered a massive flash flood that swept into the village, causing widespread devastation. A mother and daughter have gone missing in the deluge, while another woman sustained injuries. The local population is facing severe hardships, and rescue operations are currently underway.
According to private news channel Aaj News, in a separate incident in the tourist area of Hushe, located in Ghanche district, a key connecting bridge was washed away by the floodwaters, completely cutting off the region.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ghanche confirmed that due to the bridge collapse, 20 foreign mountaineers and more than 40 local high-altitude porters are stranded in the area. Authorities have managed to relocate some of the foreign climbers to safer locations, while rescue efforts continue to evacuate the remaining individuals.
Relief operations are being hampered by disrupted communication lines, making coordination and delivery of aid extremely difficult.
