Despite Government Promises, Quetta and Turbat Still Await Green and Pink Buses; 21 New Buses Expected from China Within a Month

Quetta:Despite repeated announcements by the **Balochistan government**, residents of **Quetta and Turbat** are still awaiting the launch of the promised **green and pink bus service**, intended to improve public transportation in the region.

According to **Balochistan Transport Secretary Muhammad Hayat Kakar**, **21 new buses** have been procured through an **open tender process**, awarded to a **Chinese company**. The provincial government has already **paid Rs. 810 million** for the buses, which are now being shipped from China and are expected to arrive in **Quetta within the next 15 days**.

Out of these 21 buses, **4 will be pink buses exclusively for women**, while **17 buses will operate in Quetta** under a **public-private partnership model**. The remaining buses are designated for **Turbat**.

Currently, **8 green buses** are operational in Quetta on the route from **Balochistan University to Baleli**, but residents in other major areas continue to face transportation challenges.

Secretary Kakar further stated that proposals have already been submitted to the provincial government to **expand the service** to additional routes, including **Brewery Road, Nawakilli, and Hazar Ganji**. The aim is to enhance accessibility and provide safe, affordable transport options, especially for women commuters.

Public demand for reliable urban transport remains high, and citizens are hopeful that the new buses will help alleviate the city’s long-standing transit issues.
