Asia Cup: Strong Likelihood of Fakhar Zaman and Salman Mirza’s Inclusion in the Squad

Shadab Khan's Name Not Under Consideration, Sources Sa

Lahore: There is a strong possibility that opener Fakhar Zaman and fast bowler Salman Mirza will be included in the squad for the upcoming Three-Nation Series and Asia Cup, with Shadab Khan’s name reportedly not under consideration.
The final list of possible players will be announced next week, and a training camp is proposed to be set up in Lahore. However, the final decision will be made after consulting selectors, head coach, and captain Salman Agha upon their return from the West Indies.
Sources indicate that Fakhar Zaman, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, is expected to report to the National Cricket Academy for medical assessments. The PCB’s medical panel will review his injury, though initial reports suggest the injury is not serious. Fakhar is hopeful that with normal rehabilitation, he will be able to recover in time.
Selectors are confident that Fakhar Zaman will be available for both the Three-Nation Series and the Asia Cup, with the final decision depending on his medical reports. If cleared by the medical panel, Fakhar is expected to be included in the squad.
To strengthen the bowling department, selectors are keen on including Salman Mirza in the squad. As a result, he has been withdrawn from the squad for the upcoming tour to Australia. Mirza impressed with his performances in the recent PSL and the series against Bangladesh, and his inclusion is seen as a significant boost for Pakistan’s bowling strength.
A 16-player squad is likely to be selected for the Three-Nation Series and Asia Cup. The series between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and UAE will begin on August 29 in Sharjah, and preparations are expected to start with a training camp on August 20.
