‘I Returned to Karachi After a Long Time and Was Disappointed Again,’ Says Shahid Afridi
KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has expressed deep concern over the current state of Karachi, saying he was disappointed by the city’s deteriorating infrastructure during his recent visit.
Speaking on a podcast, Afridi said he recently visited Karachi’s Korangi area and was disheartened by what he witnessed. He noted that Karachi plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economy, generating billions in business activity and providing livelihoods to thousands of people, yet its crumbling roads and lack of basic civic facilities are a cause for concern.
“I came to Karachi after a long time and hoped to see significant improvements in the city, but I was disappointed once again,” Afridi said.
He added that the condition of Korangi, University Road, and several other parts of the city was particularly troubling. According to Afridi, construction work has been underway on some major roads for an extended period, with little sign of completion.
The former cricketer emphasized that Karachi is Pakistan’s largest city and deserves serious planning and practical measures to address its longstanding problems. He urged the relevant authorities to work more effectively to resolve civic issues and improve the city’s infrastructure.
Afridi stressed that meaningful development and better public services are essential to ensuring that Karachi receives the attention befitting its economic importance to the country.
