Dumpers Association Closes Super Highway in Protest After Water Tanker Accident in Karachi

Karachi: Tensions escalated in Karachi after a tragic incident involving a water tanker, which resulted in the death of a brother and sister and left their father injured in the Federal B Area. Following the incident, angry mobs set fire to seven dump trucks, sparking a strong protest from the Dumpers Association.
Leaders of the association, including Liaquat Mehsud, have expressed outrage over the incident. Mehsud criticized the Sindh government’s existing restrictions on dump trucks, which prohibit their movement from morning until 10 PM, calling them damaging to their business. He also demanded a complete ban on dump trucks.
Mehsud alleged that “miscreants” had torched their vehicles in retaliation, and announced that they would block all access points and roads. As a result, the National Highway and Super Highway have been completely blocked, with traffic suspended from Sohrab Goth to Thatta Road.
The blockade has caused severe traffic jams, with long queues of vehicles on both tracks of the Super Highway. The Dumpers Association’s strike is expected to paralyze traffic in the city, causing significant disruption for commuters.
Meanwhile, the police have made arrests, taking dumper driver Firdous Khan and 10 other suspects into custody. Authorities are using CCTV footage and videos to identify and apprehend more individuals involved in the incident.
With major roads blocked and protests ongoing, the city’s traffic system is at risk of complete collapse, leaving residents facing severe inconveniences. The situation is rapidly escalating.
