Punjab Assembly to Take Strict Action Against Officers Involved in Repeated Financial Irregularities

Lahore: In a significant move, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Ahmed Iqbal, has announced that government officers repeatedly involved in financial irregularities will now face action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline, and Accountability (PEEDA) Act.
Ahmed Iqbal stated that rather than discussing repeated financial misconduct in the PAC, immediate action will be taken against the officers responsible. He emphasized that officers involved in repeated financial irregularities will be deemed incompetent and will be held accountable under the PEEDA Act.
He further mentioned that officers who fail to audit financial discrepancies or waste time with paperwork would face swift consequences. “If an officer cannot spend an hour on an audit paragraph or is negligent in their duties, we will take immediate action against them,” Iqbal said.
The PAC Chairman also noted that while officers had previously avoided appearing before the committee, they are now being held accountable for their actions. He highlighted that financial discipline is steadily improving across all government departments, ensuring more accountability and transparency.
This move is seen as a strong step towards tightening financial accountability within Punjab’s government machinery and tackling inefficiency at higher levels of administration.
