Gemstones and Jewelry Sector Can Play a Key Role in Export Strategy: Minister for Commerce

Islamabad : A high-level meeting on the development of the gemstones and jewelry sector was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan. The session focused on strategies to enhance exports, increase access to international markets, and develop the sector as part of the government’s broader export-oriented agenda.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized that the government is fully committed to promoting non-traditional exports, and the gemstones and jewelry sector holds significant potential to play a pivotal role in this strategy. He assured that the Ministry of Commerce will extend full support to stakeholders in this sector.
The minister noted that recommendations being formulated by the ministry will soon be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure timely policy interventions where required.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included the restoration of SRO 760 and the possible exemption from SRO 924. The minister directed that the sector should be actively represented in international business forums, particularly in France, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia.
He stressed the importance of public-private collaboration, stating that such partnerships could help unlock the full potential of the gemstone industry. The government, he added, will take all necessary measures to harness the sector’s capabilities.
Furthermore, Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the importance of economic inclusion of rural artisans and women, saying their participation in the jewelry sector could provide a strong foundation for sustainable industry growth.
