From Facebook Chat to Marriage: Rawalpindi Jeweller Marries American Woman After Nine Months of Online Romance
50-year-old Imran Chauhan says ChatGPT helped him communicate with his American wife; couple now lives with his Pakistani wife under one roof

RAWALPINDI: A Facebook conversation has turned into an unusual love story in Rawalpindi, where 50-year-old jeweller Imran Chauhan, from the Dhoke Jalal Din area, has married an American woman after nine months of online communication.
According to Imran, his story began around nine months ago when he started chatting with an American woman named Eleanor on Facebook. What initially began as casual online conversations gradually developed into a close relationship, eventually leading the couple to decide to marry.
Despite having limited formal education, Imran says artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, played an important role in his relationship. He used the tool to translate messages and understand their meaning, helping him communicate his feelings to his American partner despite the language barrier.
Before travelling to Pakistan, Eleanor embraced Islam and adopted the name Ayesha.
Ayesha has five children in the United States, while Imran has six children in Pakistan. According to the couple, family matters were settled through mutual understanding and consent. Imran’s Pakistani wife and his American wife, Ayesha, are currently living in the same household.
Imran appears pleased with his unusual family arrangement. He says he had dreamed of marrying a foreign woman since childhood, and that his wish finally came true at the age of 50. He added that his family members, relatives and neighbours were also happy about the marriage.
Ayesha, meanwhile, says she has not particularly enjoyed most Pakistani food, although she likes a few dishes, including biryani. She prefers Chinese cuisine and avoids food containing too many spices.
The couple has also discussed their future. Imran hopes to move to the United States with Ayesha. If that is not possible, Ayesha is considering settling permanently in Pakistan after a few months. Under this possible arrangement, her five children would remain in the United States while she would spend the rest of her life with Imran in Pakistan.
When asked whether he wanted more children, Imran jokingly said he hoped to have more offspring with Ayesha. She disagreed, pointing out that they already have 11 children between them and that this was enough.
A jeweller by profession, Imran says he is excited about beginning this new chapter of his life and is happy that his long-held wish to marry a foreign woman has finally been fulfilled.
What began as a simple Facebook chat has, in nine months, led to a marriage, a religious conversion and an unusual family arrangement involving two households and children from two different countries.
Whether the couple eventually settles in the United States or Ayesha makes Pakistan her permanent home remains to be seen.
