Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Proves Durability in Extreme Tests, Surpasses Expectations

Islamabad: Samsung’s latest foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, has once again impressed users with its remarkable durability, surviving a series of extreme torture tests without significant damage.
Popular tech reviewer Zack Nelson, known as JerryRigEverything on YouTube, subjected the device to a comprehensive durability test, including scratch, fire, dust, and bend assessments. Surprisingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 withstood all challenges, showcasing the strength of Samsung’s engineering.
Scratch and Glass Test
The outer screen and rear panel are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which proved highly resilient. Scratches appeared at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper marks at level 7. While the inner display is inherently more delicate, it still held up well. The aluminum frame was less resistant to sharp tools, but Nelson noted this wouldn’t affect everyday users.
Improved Camera Ring Durability
Samsung has upgraded the material used for the camera ring, making it stronger than previous models. Nelson attempted to scratch it, but it remained firmly intact, reflecting the phone’s solid build quality.
Dust Protection Test
Despite lacking a full IP68 water and dust resistance rating, the Z Fold 7 is certified IP48, offering protection from particles larger than 1mm. Zack poured fine dust over the hinge and display, repeatedly opening and closing the device. The hinge functioned flawlessly throughout, highlighting impressive resistance to contamination.
Fire Resistance Test
Both screens were exposed to a lighter flame. The outer OLED screen held out for about 15 seconds, while the inner screen showed damage after 10 seconds—typical behavior for OLED panels. Permanent burn marks were left, but the phone remained functional.
Bend Test
Perhaps the most crucial test for a foldable phone, the bend test showed the Z Fold 7 surviving pressure from both sides without breaking, bending, or showing any weakness. This is especially significant, considering the device is Samsung’s thinnest foldable yet.
Thickness Accuracy
In a recent study by a Korean consumer group, the actual thickness of the Z Fold 7 was measured at 8.82 mm—slightly less than Samsung’s official 8.9 mm claim. This contrasts with competitors like Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi, whose actual device thicknesses often exceed their claims.
